This project is an unofficial native Android port of the Xbox Black Edition of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. It recompiles the original x86 game code ahead of time into C++ and builds it for arm64, so the game runs through a Vulkan renderer and SDL3 rather than an emulator. It is aimed at Android users who own the supported disc and want touch, controller or keyboard play with expanded graphics settings.

What you get

The APK adds a full on-screen Xbox-style controller: a floating left stick and right-stick drag zone, face buttons, triggers, D-pad, Start and Back, with editable positions, size and opacity. Controllers SDL3 supports work with rumble and hide the touch overlay, and keyboard bindings are rebindable per button and stick. Graphics options include render resolution from 20% to 200% of screen height, V-Sync, frame-rate caps, an FPS counter, anisotropic filtering, FXAA or SSAA 2x, and screen filters. Saves, settings in TOML files and the shader cache live under Android/data/com.racas.mostwanted/files.

Installing and requirements

You install the APK, grant all-files access (or use the app's internal assets folder), then place your own legally acquired game files in a MostWanted folder: either the disc image or default.xbe with the NFS folder beside it. No game assets ship with the project. Only the USA Black Edition is supported, identified by its default.xbe SHA-1. The device needs Android 10 or newer on arm64, a Vulkan 1.1 GPU (the author lists Adreno 6xx, Mali-G7x or newer, or Xclipse), 4 GB of memory and 4 GB of storage.

Current status

The author describes the port as work in progress. It was tested on a Xiaomi Pad 7 (Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3): boot, menus, the career intro and races play, at about 60 FPS in a race. Known issues are that sun-glare visibility tests are not counted, so the glare stays off; one story film after the first race was seen to stop on its first picture; and a rare crash in the game's own code was seen twice. No game-specific patches, cheats or frame-rate unlock are included. Nothing beyond that single device is documented as tested.

Building

Building requires a Windows PC with Visual Studio 2022 and the C++ desktop workload for the recompiler, plus Android Studio with SDK Platform 34, NDK 28.2.13676358, CMake 3.31.6 and Java 17–21. Python is needed only to extract default.xbe from a disc image. build.bat recompiles the game into generated/game and produces the release APK; the first full arm64 build takes 30 to 90 minutes.

HotRepo's take

The repository was observed on the HotRepo NEW-REPOSITORY board for C++ on 2026-10-30 with 115 total stars at rank #23. That is a dated snapshot, not a daily growth measurement, and there is not enough comparable daily-board history to judge whether interest is rising or fading.
