Floorplan is a Claude Code / Codex plugin that reads a codebase and produces an interactive, plain-English map of its parts, files and web requests. It targets builders who have a working app (often AI-generated) but cannot easily answer "what happens at checkout?" or "what breaks if I change this?", and teams onboarding new developers.

Workflow and mechanism

You open the project (or a folder containing several repos) in Claude Code or Codex and ask for a floorplan. If a frontend and backend are separate repos, open the folder holding both. Plain Node scripts scan files, imports, routes and requests across the supplied languages and match frontend requests to backend endpoints. Claude or Codex then does the semantic part: naming parts and describing every file in plain English. The output is a floorplan/index.html map that opens in the browser with a short tour. Asking to "update the floorplan" re-reads only what changed; an open map reloads itself. Questions like "what happens when someone places an order?" are answered through the same agent and return a mini-map of the involved pieces. The map also includes a health check for hard-coded secrets and endpoints callable without sign-in, and marks recently changed cards.

A live demo of a multi-repo coffee-subscription app is available for exploring without installing. The same plugin works in both Claude Code and Codex, and a map made in one opens in the other.

The scan, map and its small local server run on your machine; the server only accepts local connections. Questions go through your own Claude Code CLI or Codex account, so code is read by the AI the same way those tools normally work. Opening the map in the Claude app instead uploads the map structure (not source code) after asking. The only thing Floorplan itself may send is a waitlist email, and only after sign-up.

Requirements and limits

You need Node.js 18+ and either Claude Code or Codex; it runs on your existing plan with no API keys. Installation is a plugin marketplace in either tool; Codex can be installed without a terminal. The Ask bar works best with the CLI for Claude because it can read real code; Codex's desktop app already includes what it needs, and without the Claude CLI you can ask from the Claude app using the map alone.

A first map takes a few minutes for a small app and longer for large ones, since every file and endpoint is described; usage counts against your existing plan. Documented language and framework coverage is broad but not exhaustive — TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, Scala plus Vue, Svelte and Astro files are named, with lighter support for others. Floorplan writes only its own floorplan/ folder and, in Claude Code, a section in CLAUDE.local.md; neither is committed, and it does not change your code or .gitignore. The repository is MIT-licensed (v0.2.0).

HotRepo's take

HotRepo recorded 162 total stars at #7 on its NEW-REPOSITORY board on 2026-10-28, with no comparable daily-board history; that is a dated observation, not evidence of momentum either way.
