elripalda/RecompLauncher
GamesA Windows launcher that helps players discover, install, update, and play PC recompilations of console games.
What it does
RecompLauncher is a launcher for PC recomps: native PC versions of console games made by their developers from the original game. The launcher handles discovery through recomplauncher.com, one-click installs and updates from the recomp developer's own GitHub releases, setup from a disc image or game folder where supported, version switching, save backups before updates, optional cloud saves, a TV-friendly Big Picture mode, per-game CRT and screen effects, player reports, and developer following.
It is aimed at players who own a copy of a console game and want a single place to manage its PC recomp rather than downloading each project and configuring it manually. The launcher does not include or download game files; the recomp itself comes from its developer's GitHub and you supply your own copy of the game (no game files).
Get started
- Use Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Linux and Mac are planned but not yet available.
- Download the setup file from the latest release and run it.
- If Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" while the beta is new, choose More info and then Run anyway. Each release publishes its file's SHA-256 so you can verify the download (Get it).
- In the launcher, browse or search under Discover, choose a recomp, and install it.
- For recomps that support Easy Setup, point the launcher at your disc image or game folder and let it finish configuration.
- Launch from the launcher and use its version, save, and display options as needed.
Constraints
- The current beta is Windows-only, 64-bit, with Linux and Mac not yet released.
- You must already own the console game; RecompLauncher never downloads game files.
- Download and update flows depend on the recomp developer publishing a GitHub release, and one-click setup depends on that release including a
recomplauncher.json. Developers can read the integration guide in docs/DEVELOPERS.md. - Cloud saves require a free account; local save backups before updates are described without that requirement.
- The source is under GPL v3, with the Rust core in
src-tauri/and the UI inui/. Build instructions are in docs/BUILDING.md.
Reporting problems
Bug reports can be sent from Settings > Beta in the launcher, posted on the Discord, or filed as a GitHub issue. The launcher also collects a log from the crash screen if a game crashes.
HotRepo's take
RecompLauncher appeared on HotRepo's new-project list for the Rust language on 2026-11-01, recording 109 stars and 6 new stars across a roughly two-hour observation window, with forks rising by 1. The project has no recorded GitHub daily rank. With only a short early snapshot, these figures show initial attention rather than a sustained trend; the more useful signal for now is that the repository ships a launcher beta with a documented recomp integration format and its full Rust and UI source under GPL v3.
