What it does

Pokopia Recomp is a static-recompilation project that turns Pokémon Pokopia (Switch 2) into a native Windows build. Instead of emulating the console, it compiles the game's code on the user's PC ahead of time, then runs the result directly. The project is built on nxrecomp and reuses runtime and graphics code from Ryujinx, yuzu, Eden, Mesa and other upstream projects repository. It is aimed at people who already own the game and want to play it on a desktop rather than on the console.

The shared runtime and per-game code are split: game-specific code lives under recomp/games/pkp/ and runtime/games/pkp/, while the rest is shared with other recompilation projects README lines 27–33.

Quick start

  1. Check that you have Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a GPU supporting Vulkan 1.3, and 16 GB of RAM requirements.
  2. You need your own copy of the game, version 2.0.1a, as an extracted folder or as NSP/XCI files plus your keys README lines 1–8.
  3. Get the latest build from the releases page, unzip it, and run PokopiaLauncher.exe.
  4. Point the launcher at your dump folder (or your NSP/XCI files and key files) and press Set up. It compiles the game on your machine, roughly 7 minutes, then builds the shader cache, about 1 to 2 hours. The process can be paused and resumed usage.
  5. Press Play. In game, F1 opens settings and the middle mouse button toggles Joy-Con 2 mouse mode for placing items.

To report a problem, open an issue and attach pkp.log from the affected session, your GPU and your Windows version reporting.

Build from source

Building requires Visual Studio 2022 Build Tools or newer, LLVM, CMake, Ninja, Python 3.13, .NET 8 SDK, vcpkg with libvpx:x64-windows-static, Rust and Node.js. Copy the game's exefs files to game\dump\exefs\, run recomp\scripts\build_game.cmd pkp in a Developer Command Prompt, then pwsh -File game-build\scripts\build.ps1. Shader tooling is documented in tools/shaders, and the Tauri launcher is built with npm install and npm run tauri build from launcher\ README lines 27–33. Runtime tests run via pwsh -File runtime\scripts\build.ps1 -Test.

Constraints

  • A legally obtained copy of Pokémon Pokopia version 2.0.1a and the corresponding keys are required; the project does not ship the game data.
  • The launcher and build process are Windows-only, and the Vulkan 1.3 requirement rules out older GPUs.
  • The first setup is slow: compilation plus shader cache building can take close to two hours, though it can be paused.
  • The project is licensed under GPL-3.0; bundled third-party components keep their own licenses README lines 34–40.

HotRepo's take

The repository appeared on the new-project board for C++ on 2026-11-05, adding 4 stars in a one-hour window and reaching 395 total stars with 33 forks. That is a single short observation, so it supports little more than noting early interest; the practical questions are whether the release artifacts correspond to the source in the repository and how stable the recompiled runtime is across GPUs, neither of which is established by the listed data.
