ys-ll/uniterm
DevOps & Self-hostingA cross-platform terminal app unifying SSH, RDP, SFTP, databases, Kubernetes and containers, with an autonomous AI shell agent.
What it is
uniTerm is a desktop (and optional browser-deployed) terminal that puts remote access into one workspace: SSH, Telnet, Mosh, serial, SFTP/SCP/FTP/SMB/WebDAV/S3, RDP/VNC/SPICE/X11, database clients, Kubernetes and container runtimes (Docker, Podman, nerdctl, WSLC) README lines 48–59. It is built with Wails v3, Go, Vue 3 and xterm.js, so the same codebase targets Windows, macOS, Linux and Android Tech Stack.
The distinguishing feature is a built-in AI Agent. After configuring an Anthropic- or OpenAI-compatible endpoint and key, the sidebar chat can plan and run multi-turn shell commands in the active terminal tab, with execution modes ranging from bypass to confirm-all README lines 60–70. A built-in MCP server also lets external agents such as Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI operate saved connections; the README states credentials remain inside the app.
Getting started
- Install a prebuilt build for your platform from GitHub Releases or Gitee Releases: Windows installer or portable ZIP, macOS DMG, Linux tar.gz/deb/rpm, Android APK, or the Docker web deployment README lines 160–171.
- Open the app and click New Connection in the Connection Manager, then enter host, port and password or private key and press Connect to open an SSH session SSH workflow.
- To try the AI Agent, open Settings and set the AI provider endpoint, model and key, open a terminal tab, then describe a task in the AI sidebar — commands run in that tab under your chosen execution mode AI workflow.
- For file transfer, right-click an SSH connection and choose Connect SFTP to use the dual-pane browser SFTP workflow.
The Windows package-manager route is scoop bucket add uniterm https://github.com/ys-ll/scoop-uniterm && scoop install uniterm; macOS uses brew install --cask ys-ll/uniterm/uniterm README lines 172–189. A Docker deployment guide covers the multi-tenant browser version Docker deployment guide.
Runtime requirements
Windows needs the WebView2 runtime (shipped with Windows 10+); macOS relies on system WebKit; Linux needs libgtk-3-0 and libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0; Android requires 5.0+; Docker needs only Docker Engine on the host README lines 190–197. Oracle support uses a pure-Go driver and does not bundle Oracle client libraries or brand assets, so licensing and credentials are the user's responsibility.
Windows builds are unsigned because the project has not purchased a code-signing certificate. The README notes this can trigger antivirus false positives and points to a related Wails issue, suggesting an exclusion rule or a local build from source if concerned README lines 160–171. The AI Agent executes real commands in your sessions, so the execution-mode setting and the API keys you configure are operationally significant.
Building from source
Go 1.26+, Node.js 20+ and the wails3 CLI v3.1.0 are required, plus Xcode Command Line Tools on macOS or libgtk-3-dev and libwebkit2gtk-4.1-dev on Linux README lines 228–244:
git clone https://github.com/ys-ll/uniterm.git
cd uniTerm
cd frontend && npm install && cd ..
wails3 dev
HotRepo's take
On 2026-11-04, uniTerm recorded 1,023 stars and 166 forks, adding 10 stars that day and reaching 15th on the Go daily list. It is a single snapshot rather than a trend, but ranking on a language-specific daily list for a project whose scope spans terminals, remote desktops, databases and container orchestration is consistent with the breadth described in the README. The scope is also the main caution: such an all-in-one client accumulates surface area across many protocols, and the project describes itself as a personal hobby project without commercial support README lines 298–350. Users who need one such tool should prefer a build they can verify and keep the AI Agent's confirmation mode enabled on production hosts.
