mofan6/Moect
Productivity & UtilitiesA Windows desktop tool for exporting WeChat 4.x chats, Moments and stickers into browsable offline archives.
What it does
Moect reads local WeChat 4.x data on Windows and turns chats, Moments and favorite stickers into files you can keep. It handles one-to-one chats and group chats, plus avatars, images, GIF stickers, audio, video, files, links, mini-programs, quoted replies and forwarded message bundles. Exports are written as HTML, JSON, JSONL, TXT, CSV or Markdown, and the HTML output is a self-contained offline reader with search and time-range filtering.
It is aimed at people who want a local backup of their own conversation history, not at remote or server-side archiving. Parsing and database work happen on the machine; per the project, no server receives chat records.
Getting started
- Download the one-click installer from the latest release and choose an install location. The installer adds a Start menu entry and fetches WebView2 if it is missing, which requires a network connection.
- Log in to WeChat for Windows, open Moect, and click "连接微信" (Connect WeChat). You can also open an existing decrypted backup or try the built-in fictional demo data first.
- Pick a conversation, choose an export format and time range, and create an export task.
- Open the result from the task page. For an HTML export, keep the entire exported folder (HTML, message shards and resource directories) together so media still loads on an offline machine.
Moments exports only use what is already cached locally: browse the target Moments in WeChat first, then refresh the resource snapshot in Moect. The tool does not operate WeChat or scroll Moments on your behalf.
Requirements and limits
- Windows 10 1809 or later / Windows 11, x64, with Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. The packaged installer includes Python and the frontend, so no development environment is needed usage guide.
- It targets WeChat 4.x on Windows; the project does not promise coverage of every 4.x version, and WeChat updates can break compatibility.
- Whether a media item is saved depends on local cache, available credentials and the original file. Missing attachments are reported with a status, and links, mini-programs and transfer cards keep only the information that is available.
- Images, animated stickers, video, voice and files can each be skipped at export time, and a quick-export mode skips all resources and avatars while keeping messages and existing metadata.
- Default export folder is
文档\Moect\exportsand is configurable. The uninstaller keeps user data such as configuration, tasks, snapshots and media key cache. - Licensed GPL-3.0; it is an independent community project with no official affiliation with WeChat or Tencent.
Building from source
Development uses Python 3.11, pywebview/WebView2 and React/TypeScript. The README gives a PowerShell sequence: create and activate a .venv, pip install -r requirements.txt, run npm ci --prefix frontend and npm run build --prefix frontend, copy the icon, run python build.py, then use Inno Setup 6.5+ with installer\build.ps1 to produce the installer. Details are in the build guide.
HotRepo's take
The project appeared in HotRepo's new-project snapshot for 2026-11-02, gaining 6 stars and 2 forks in an observed one-hour window, reaching 106 stars and 21 forks. That is a single short observation rather than a sustained trend, and it has no recorded GitHub daily rank. The notable technical detail is the explicit scope: Windows-only, WeChat 4.x, with cached-media limits stated up front, which sets expectations for what a backup can actually contain.
