Productivity & UtilitiesDesktop enhancement for WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy: multi-account backups, session migration, automation and themes.
Overview
WorkDaddy is a local desktop enhancement tool for the WorkBuddy (China and international) and CodeBuddy (China and international) Electron clients. It attaches through the Chrome DevTools Protocol, adds a robot button and a multi-tab panel to the client window, and leaves the official installer and signature untouched. It is aimed at users who switch between several accounts, run long unattended agent tasks, or want more control over themes, models and session history.
The panel covers account backups and switching, encrypted account import/export, growth-plan and check-in status for the China WorkBuddy edition, token and credit usage statistics, model rate-limit information, session migration and branching, model management, prompt drafts and quick phrases, sleep control, and an automation page with manual, event and scheduled triggers. CodeBuddy support is limited to its Electron agent window, not the VS Code editor mode, and CodeBuddy does not show the "enhancement" page.
Getting started
Install and sign in to the matching official client first. Then download the package for that client from Releases: WorkDaddy-*.dmg / WorkDaddy-Setup-*.exe for WorkBuddy China, WorkDaddy-AI-* for the international edition, CodeDaddy-CN-* for CodeBuddy China, and CodeDaddy-* for international CodeBuddy.
On macOS, open the DMG and drag the .app into Applications. If Gatekeeper blocks the first launch, allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → "Open Anyway", then launch the app; it starts a local daemon and injects the panel into the matching client. The macOS launcher uses the local Node.js, and Node.js 22.13 or newer is recommended. A robot button in the bottom-right corner of the client means it worked.
On Windows, run the Setup installer and open the desktop shortcut, or extract the Portable ZIP to a writable directory and run Start-WorkDaddy.cmd. On Ubuntu/Debian, install the matching DEB, for example:
sudo apt install ./CodeDaddy-CN_1.2.9_amd64.deb
and launch it from the application menu. Builds are provided for amd64 and arm64.
To run from source on Linux:
git clone https://github.com/babygoton/WorkDaddy.git
cd WorkDaddy
bash scripts/install-linux.sh
bash scripts/relaunch-with-cdp-linux.sh
The four clients share one daemon and are bound by profile (workbuddy-cn, workbuddy-ai, codebuddy-cn, codebuddy-intl). The default local API ports are 47832–47835 and the renderer CDP ports are 9222–9225. After installation, the management UI opens at http://127.0.0.1:47832.
Constraints
- Supported systems are macOS 11+, Windows 10/11 and Linux (Ubuntu/Debian,
amd64andarm64); Node.js 22.13+ is recommended on macOS. - The matching official client must be installed and logged in. CodeBuddy enhancement does not cover VS Code editor mode.
- Do not run the installed and portable Windows builds of the same profile at the same time; portable builds do not support in-panel auto-update.
- Linux builds also lack in-panel auto-update; install a new DEB to upgrade. Uninstalling does not remove account backups or runtime data.
- Session workspaces are not recreated by default; on Windows,
WORKDADDY_REPAIR_MISSING_SESSION_WORKSPACES=1enables periodic rebuilds of missing directories. - Account exports are AES-256-GCM encrypted, but they contain tokens that can restore login state, so protect and delete them after migration.
- Login and credit features call the official WorkBuddy/CodeBuddy APIs; model connectivity tests send the configured API key to the configured model service; redacted error diagnostics via Sentry are on by default and can be disabled in the About tab or with
WORKDADDY_TELEMETRY=0. - The project is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and is not affiliated with or endorsed by WorkBuddy or CodeBuddy.
HotRepo's take
The repository had 2,782 stars and 306 forks at the time of the 2026-11-07 JavaScript daily snapshot, when it added 30 stars and reached 8th place on that day's JavaScript list. That is a single-day record and does not establish a trend. The project's practical value is concentrated in account switching and unattended-task support, which makes its stability closely tied to the UI structure of the official clients; the README itself notes that this approach keeps working after official upgrades only as long as the interface has not changed much. Users should also account for the reviewed local daemon, the CDP ports it opens, and the diagnostic reporting that is enabled by default.
