KlikDash is a community-made home-screen launcher for Android car headunits (Android 7.0 or newer). It swaps the stock launcher for a static instrument-panel view with a large clock, GPS speed, CPU temperature, Hijri/Gregorian dates, and up to 11 rearrangable shortcuts, then adds GPS-based prayer times, an offline Quran, and an optional voice assistant. It is aimed at people who want a calmer, more informative headunit screen and reads of the Quran while driving; it is not an official product of any headunit maker.

What actually changes on the unit

Installing KlikDash replaces the home screen but does not uninstall or disable any apps. On NWD firmware it sets the default launcher, turns off the ksmd process each boot, and sends Zlink back to home for the first three minutes after boot or wake-up. All of these are reversible from Settings › Launcher › STOCK LAUNCHER or by uninstalling and rebooting. The optional Power Saver only stops apps you explicitly select from running in the background, and "RESTORE ALL" undoes that. The old NWD launcher is kept because it still handles CAN-bus car info README.

Requirements and tested scope

The device needs Android 7.0+ and is designed for a 1280×720 landscape screen. The author tested it on an NWD K2401; other NWD firmware, other Android headunits, and other screen sizes are listed as "should work" or only emulator-checked README. The headunit-specific integration (default launcher, sleep/wake, Zlink, Power Saver) depends on the headunit's built-in ADB, so USB debugging must be enabled; on Android 11+ it usually must be opened once via Wireless debugging or a computer install guide. The dashboard itself claims ~0–1% CPU and ~30 MB RAM, against the stock launcher's ~40% CPU on the tested unit.

Features worth knowing

The Quran text and translation are not bundled; you download them once with the app and then read offline. Prayer times are calculated on-device with Kemenag (JAKIM in Malaysia) parameters; the author reports ±1 minute of the Kemenag schedule for Jakarta and within 1 minute of JAKIM on 92.7% of days across six Malaysian zones in 2026. The optional voice assistant requires you to supply your own Claude or OpenAI-compatible API key; speech is transcribed by Android/Google or ElevenLabs, then the text, installed-app names, current time and sometimes location go to the active AI provider and are billed to your account README. Without that option, no account or key is needed.

Risks to test before driving

The author's central warning is that a replaced head unit screen can affect safety-critical functions on some firmware. With the car parked, check the reverse camera, 360° camera, door-open/CAN warnings, steering-wheel buttons, radio, Bluetooth, and calls README disclaimer. If any of these fail, switch back to the stock launcher. Changing the default launcher is unsupported by the headunit maker and may affect warranty. The software is MIT-licensed LICENSE.
