What it does

Timon is a local AI agent orchestration service. You describe a job in plain language, and an orchestrator splits it into tasks, assigning each to a role: coder, reviewer, merger, researcher, or ops. Agents run on CLI subscriptions you already sign in to, such as Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, Grok, opencode, Pi, Kimi, or Hermes, rather than a token-billed API. Each coding task works in its own Git worktree, the diff is reviewed by a second model, and the merger runs the test suite before landing the branch. The daemon keeps all state, so closing the client does not stop running missions, and agents ask for approval before pushing, publishing, or deleting.

The target user is a developer or small team that wants agents to handle multi-step coding work with review and merge steps and to control which subscription backs each task. A memory layer carries learned rules into later missions, and missions can be resumed after failure. Clients include desktop, browser, phone, Telegram, and CLI, and there is a plugin SDK for widgets, pages, themes, and provider backends.

Quick start

  1. Sign in to at least one supported agent CLI in advance: claude, codex, copilot, grok, opencode, pi, or hermes-acp.
  2. Install Timon from the platform downloads (Windows 10+ x64, macOS 11+ on Apple silicon, or Linux x64 with glibc 2.28+). The installer bundles Node.js and adds Git on Windows if missing.
  3. Verify the setup from a terminal:
timon doctor # checks the service, backends and paths
timon backends # lists the agent CLIs Timon found
  1. Open Timon and describe a task to the orchestrator.

On a headless server, install only the background service:

timon service install --dry-run # shows what will be installed
timon service install

The installation guide covers remote phone access, updates, and troubleshooting. To run the daemon and web app without the desktop app, clone the repository and follow GETTING-STARTED.md.

Constraints

  • The core setup requires an existing signed-in agent CLI subscription; Timon does not replace it or call a token-billed API on your behalf.
  • Platform builds target Windows 10+ x64, macOS 11+ Apple silicon only, and Linux x64 glibc 2.28+.
  • The daemon runs as a systemd service, launchd agent, or Windows scheduled task; multi-user roles, groups, and per-person permissions are a Pro feature.
  • The project is AGPL-3.0 with a plugin licensing exception; the SDK and plugin templates are MIT, and the name, logo, and mascot are trademarked.

HotRepo's take

Timon first appears in HotRepo's new-project TypeScript list on 2026-11-07, with 102 stars and 11 forks gained in a roughly 14-hour window starting 2026-11-06. That is a single observation, not a trend, and it is early adoption for a daemon of this scope: the appeal rests on turning existing CLI subscriptions into a review-and-merge pipeline rather than on any measured efficiency claim.
