Bygga is a web app that generates step-by-step 3D assembly guides for IKEA furniture, drawn in the style of the paper manual and read aloud. You type the product name or article number on the box, then follow the steps; guides can also be printed or opened offline.

How the guide is produced

The core is a parametric plan generator plus a three.js line-art stage, which draw the steps offline. The catalog covers 1,171 IKEA products across 2,180 sizes for the UK and US ranges, built from IKEA's public listings; you can rebuild it with the project's fetch/build/check scripts when listings change (README). Because every guide is generated rather than mirrored, each cover links to the official manual on ikea.com instead of hosting IKEA's PDFs (README).

Using it

You can try the hosted version at usebygga.com, or run it locally: install, then npm run dev and enter a product such as BISSA (repository). A specific step is addressable by URL, and a print view and share cards come from the same engine. The live site also keeps opened guides available through a service worker.

AI features and their key condition

The optional extras are Together AI features: drafts for products not in the catalog, photo lookup, and a help chat that answers with drawings of the relevant panel, fitting or step (README). These run on each visitor's own Together key, so without a key these parts are unavailable. Hands-free voice is narrower in scope: 1,476 pre-recorded Kokoro clips play without a key, while recognising spoken "next" uses Whisper on Together through an echo-cancelled mic.

Known limits

The catalog does not yet cover every odd shape — three-cornered shelves, corner combinations and some PAX widths are listed as remaining generator work. Voice is English-only. The photo manual scanner is behind a flag and explicitly not yet brought back, with no claim of testing on real manuals (README). Tests replay recorded voice runs and catalog rows, but these are the author's own checks, not evidence of general accuracy.
